Naltar is an alpine plateau serving as a winters Ski resort as well. Surrounded by five to six thousand meters high peaks, the place was once a great home of wildlife. In the highlands, one may get a glimpse of Ibex, Markhor, Ram Chikor and Chikor etc. There lie some lovely lakes on the trek before crossing Naltar Pass at 4600m.

After descending to Gilgit / Chitral route, we start driving towards Shandur Plateau, the place famous for its annual Polo Festival. We have joined another trek connection Swat Valley with Chitral Region i.e. Kachi Khanni Pass ( 4766m ), which finishes at Mahoo Dund, a picturesque lake with trout fish in abundance.

ITINERARY

    Day 01 Arrival in Pakistan

    Welcome in Pakistan at Islamabad and transfer to hotel. In the afternoon we will make a city sightseeing tour to Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which offers a great contrast of culture, archaeology and planning. Rawalpindi is an old city with narrow lanes and bustling bazaars while Islamabad is a modern and the only planned city of Pakistan serving as the capital of the state. Raja Bazaar, Murree Road, Lok Virsa Museum and Shah Faisal Mosque are the places of tourist interest included in the tour.

    Day 02 Islamabad - Taxila - Besham

    Following the historic Grand Trunk Road, we turn right to Taxila, once the capital of Gandhara & Buddhism. At Taxila, we will visit Jaulian Monastery and Archaeological Museum and resume drive to Abbottabad and Mansehra and crossing huge suspension bridge on River Indus at Thakot, we arrive at Besham.

    Day 03 Besham - Gilgit

    Following the upstream course of River Indus, we will make photo stops at Shatial and Chilas rocks with ancient graffiti's on it. Nanga Parbat viewpoint offers breathtaking panorama while our next stop will be at the unique point where three mountain ranges, Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu Kush meet and then the last viewpoint is the confluence of Indus and Gilgit Rivers before arriving at Gilgit.

    Day 04 Gilgit - Excursion Hunza Valley

    While driving towards Karimabad, the capital of Hunza Valley, we cross several villages of Nagar & Hunza valleys. We make a spectacular stop at Rakaposhi viewpoint, revealing the grandeur and beauty of the mountain. <

    At Karimabad, Ultar, Hunza Dome, Bublimating, Spantik and Diran are famous peaks surrounding us while Rakaposhi at 7788m dominates the whole panorama. At Karimabad, we visit Baltit Fort Museum and in the evening drive back to Gilgit for overnight.

    Day 05 Gilgit - Naltar

    After a brief visit of Gilgit town, we depart by jeeps for Naltar Plateau, a green and lovely place and winter Ski resort, crossing Nomal village en route.

    Day 06 Naltar - Naltar Lake

    Trekking on an easy trail and crossing a forest and shepherds settlements en route, we arrive at Naltar Lake, a crystal clear emerald green lake. This is an ideal place for camping.

    Day 07 Naltar Lake - Lower Shanni

    Crossing a river and dwellings of Gopa and Nilolot, we arrive at Lower Shanni. Superb views of Snow Dome ( 5029m ) and Sentinel Peak ( 5260m ) en route.

    Day 08 Lower Shanni - Base Camp

    Crossing a side stream and passing through grassy land with variety of flowers, where yaks, horses and sheep graze in pastures, we arrive at base camp for Naltar Pass.

    Day 09 Base Camp - Koribort

    After climbing on snow and stones for a couple of hours, we reach on the flat top of Naltar Pass at 4600m. From top, treks lead in different valleys, while we will descent towards Koribort by a difficult and crevassed trek.

    Day 10 Koribort - Pakora

    Walking through pastures and forests of pine and birch trees, we cross few shepherds' settlements before arriving at Pakora, a small village at the head of jeep road.
    ( Exit Option - by jeep to Gilgit in one day )

    Day 11 Pakora - Gakuch - Phander

    Drive by jeeps to Gakuch on Gilgit / Chitral route and start driving for Phander, driving along Ghizer River.

    Day 12 Phander - Day Free

    Picturesque Phander Lake abounds with delicious trout. This is a free day to take rest at leisure and for fishing before starting the second part of the trek.

    Day 13 Phander - Shandur Pass - Sor Laspur

    Shandur Pass ( 3737m ) situated at the border of Gilgit and Chitral region is known for its annual tournament of Polo. We keep on travelling and arrive at Sor Laspur, a small village of Chitral.

    ( Exit Option - by jeep to Chitral in one day )

    Day 14 Sor Laspur - Bashqar Gol Camp

    Following upstream the river course, we walk through the Naglar and arrive at the confluence of Bashqar & Kachi Khanni streams to camp for overnight.

    Day 15 Bashqar Gol - Kachi Khanni Base Camp

    Zig zagging along the stream for two three times, we arrive at a small green patch of grass among high mountains around. The place is good for camping and with fresh spring water availability.

    Day 16 Kachi Khanni BC - Kachi Khanni High Camp

    Early departure to cross the Kachi Khanni Pass at 4766m and descend in to Swat Valley passing by a dramatic ice fall en route. The campsite is known as Bokhtshal.

    Bokhtshal is a nice place to camp with birch trees and flowers and the small lake abounds with trout fish.

    Day 17 Kachi Khanni High Camp - Mahoo Dund

    We keep on descending continuously to enjoy a free day at Mahoo Dund, the picturesque lake, famous for trout fishing.

    Day 18 Mahoo Dund - Day Free

    At the end of trek, this is a free day at leisure for rest and to enjoy the landscape in serene and calm environment.

    Day 19 Mahoo Dund - Saidu Sharif

    We will drive by jeeps to Saidu Sharif, the capital of Swat Valley. En route we will cross through the famous places of Swat like Kalam, Bahrain and Madyan etc..

    Day 20 Saidu Sharif - Islamabad

    We will depart from the largest commercial town of the region and crossing Malakand Pass and River Indus at Attock, arrive in Islamabad. Rest of the time is free for packing and shopping of souvenirs.

    Day 21 Departure

    Our staff will provide transfer and assistance at departure and say bon voyage for your onwards journey.
