Shimshal Valley was used to imprison the people against the policies of the State of Hunza and for criminals etc. Due to its difficult approach, Shimshal has emerged as one of the rarely visited permanent villages and the place has produced the top quality climbers, with Rajab Shah, the only Pakistani to climb all five ‘eight thousanders’ in Pakistan. Beyond the main village, there are their summer pastures known as Pamirs, the most scenic place around. Options to go to Askole at the head of K-2 trek via Shimshal and Lupke La passes or go to KKH via Chopchingol pass are available.
Day 02 Islamabad - Chilas
We depart from Islamabad and arrive at Besham crossing the famous towns of Abbottabad and Mansehra. Later on ffollowing the upstream course of River Indus, we will make photo stops at Shatial rocks with ancient graffiti's on it. After a long day aboard, we arrive at Chilas and transfer to hotel for overnight.
Day 03 Chilas - Gulmit
Some interesting carvings can be seen on the rocks at Chilas, even from the window of your vehicle and next to Chilas is the Nanga Parbat viewpoint offering breathtaking views. The next stop will be at the unique point where three mountain ranges, Karakoram, Himalayas and Hindu Kush meet, near the confluence of Indus and Gilgit Rivers. We bye passes the Gilgit Town and continue our drive on KKH. En route, we cross several villages of Hunza & Nagar valleys and make a photo stop at Rakaposhi view point. Driving past Karimabad, we go straight to Gulmit, a quite and serene village in upper Hunza region and stay for overnight.
Day 04 Gulmit - Excursion Khunjerab Pass
Today we will make an excursion to the Sino-Pak border at Khunjerab, crossing the villages of Passu and Sost en route. Khunjerab is the highest point on KKH at 4734 meters and considered as the highest trade route in the world. In the evening we will return to Gulmit.
Day 05 Gulmit - Dutt - Ziarat
After an early breakfast at hotel we shall drive to Passu and later proceed to Dutt to start trekking. This is a tough, hard and dry day. Ziarat is a shrine of a saint, Hazrat Shamas.
Day 06 Ziarat - Shimshal
Previously this was the toughest portion of the trek but now due to a bye pass for the difficult slope areas, it has become a bit easier now. We arrive at Shimshal Village crossing Malunguti en route.
Day 07 Shimshal - Day Free
Day free at Shimshal to relax and to see the development works in this remote area, which is astonishing. Although there is no road but you will find a tractor there for ploughing fields. ( Exit Option in two days to KKH & Hunza )
Day 08 Shimshal - Zardgarbin
A short day but altitude difference is great as we climb 700 meters, this day.
Day 09 Zardgarbin - Shuijerab
We follow the new route along River Shimshal to arrive at Shuijerab, which is a barren plateau. At Shuijerab there are good chances to get a glimpse of a grazing ibex on the mountains.
Day 10 Shuijerab - Shuwart
We cross the Shimshal Pass at 4735m, a rewarding and scenic pass and descend to Shuwart, the summer shepherd's settlement of Shimshalis.
Day 11 Shuwart - Day Free
This is a free day to enjoy the scenery of the place and to walk around. Tracks lead to Snow Lake from where one can go either to Hunza or Skardu in approximately 10 days.
Day 12 Shuwart - Shuijerab
We make our return journey following the same route.
Day 13 Shuijerab - Shimshal
We make our return journey following the same route.
Day 14 Shimshal - Ziarat
We make our return journey following the same route.
Day 15 Ziarat - Dutt - Karimabad ( Hunza Valley )
Walk down to Ziarat and drive by jeeps to KKH and onwards Karimabad, the capital of Hunza Valley.
Day 16 Karimabad - Sightseeing
Ultar, Hunza Dome, Bublimating, Spantik and Diran are famous peaks surrounds us at Karimabad, while Rakaposhi at 7788m dominates the whole panorama. At Karimabad, we visit Baltit Fort Museum and Altit Fort. Rest of the day is free for walking around villages and famous terraced fields of Hunza.
Day 17 Karimabad - Gilgit
We will drive back to Gilgit, where we enjoy a free time to explore bazaar and town. Gilgit River flowing through the town offers superb views and walk along its banks is rewarding.
Day 18 Gilgit - Besham
Return journey on KKH to Chilas, the place at the foot of Nanga Parbat, where hundreds of rocks are found with inscriptions, writings and drawings of old times. We will make a photo stop at Chilas and Shatial Rocks and continue driving to Besham for overnight stay.
Day 19 Besham - Islamabad
Making an early departure for Islamabad, we arrive at Taxila, the famous capital of Buddhists. At Taxila, we will visit Jaulian Monastery and Archaeological Museum and resume drive to Islamabad for overnight. At Islamabad, evening is free for packing and individual's activities.
Day 20 Departure
Our staff will provide transfer and assistance at departure and say bon voyage for your onwards journey.
