An area yet to be explored with its virgin valleys and grazing lands, Boroghil region is our selection for trekking. We cross three passes starting with an easy plods through wide valleys lined with smooth pastures, where horses, sheep and yaks graze. The scenery is unbelievable. En route, we pass by the Wakhan, the easiest approach from Russia, making it a place of vital importance. The Chillinji Pass joins the region with upper Hunza Valley above Sost. We cross the famous shrine called as Ziarat Baba Ghundi to arrive on KKH and start our return journey to Islamabad.

ITINERARY

    Day 01 Arrival in Pakistan at Islamabad

    Welcome in Pakistan at Islamabad and transfer to hotel for rest. In the morning, we will visit ministry of tourism for a briefing session and for permit formalities.

    In the afternoon we will make a city sightseeing tour to Rawalpindi and Islamabad, which offers a great contrast of culture, archaeology and planning. Rawalpindi is an old city with narrow lanes and bustling bazaars while Islamabad is a modern and the only planned city of Pakistan serving as the capital of the state. Raja Bazaar, Murree Road, Lok Virsa Museum and Shah Faisal Mosque are the places of tourist interest included in the tour.

    Day 02 Islamabad - Taxila - Peshawar

    Following the historic Grand Trunk Road, we make a detour to Taxila and visit Jaulian Monastery and Archaeological Museum later on drive to Peshawar crossing River Indus at Attock Bridge on G.T. Road.

    Day 03 Peshawar - Chitral

    Early departure for Chitral crossing Malakand pass and arriving Dir. Onwards trek is only jeepable to cross Lowari Pass entering in to Chitral region. On arrival in Chitral Town, transfer to hotel for rest and overnight stay.

    Day 04 Chitral - Excursion Bamburet ( Kalash Valley )

    Today we will visit Bamburet, the main village of Kalash, an exotic feature of the region as these tribes are contrast to rest of the country. Their culture, religion, customs and habitat is unique and interesting.

    Day 05 Chitral - Paur

    We will depart from Chitral and drive by jeeps to Paur across Mastuj, driving along Yarkhun River. In Paur, one can find the acanthus and lotus flowers carved on wooden doors in nice patterns. At Paur, our stay will be in tents.

    Day 06 Paur - Rawak

    Crossing Wasam, Gazin, Darband and Dobargar, we arrive in Rawak along Yarkhun River and establish our campsite for overnight.

    Day 07 Rawak - Lasht

    We are following the winter jeep track, usually not maintained in summer and monsoon seasons. We arrive at Lasht, where there is the last post to check trekking permit as the zone is restricted for foreigners without permission from ministry of tourism.

    Day 08 Lasht - Kishmanja

    In start it is a lovely walk along the river through the bushes of willows. We have to cross several thigh deep waters en route. On the back, there are good views of glaciers flowing off the Thui - I.

    Day 09 Kishmanja - Ishkarwarz

    Crossing Vindikot, we arrive in Ishkarwaz, the guarding post for Boroghil Pass - 3807m, an easy approach to Central Asia.

    Day 10 Ishkarwarz - Lalay Rabat

    A lovely walk through rolling pastures along Yarkhun River and crossing Gharel and Lashkargaz and Showar Shur. En route, we find herds of horses and yaks.

    Day 11 Lalay Rabat - Karumbar Lake

    Crossing Margach, a summer settlement, we arrive at the top of Karumbar Pass at 4188m. We descend onwards to Karumbar Lake also called as Zhoe Lake.

    Day 12 Karumbar Lake - Day Free

    Today is a free at Karumbar Lake to enjoy a day at leisure. We have crossed the Boroghil region to enter in the Ishkoman Valley.

    Day 13 Karumbar Lake - Swinj

    We walk down to Swinj from Karumbar Lake, after spending a free day at leisure.

    Day 14 Swinj - Chillinji BC

    Initially it is an easy walk for seven kilometers approximately, when we negotiate with Chitteboi Glacier, where the crossing is difficult, care and safety is must. We cross Sokhtarabad, a grassy place with willow and birch bushes and camp onwards at Chillinji base camp.

    Day 15 Chillinji BC - Bualtar

    We will make a very early departure for a very long day. It is a steep climb of about 2000m to the top of Chillinji Pass at 5291m from where we see the distant panorama of mountains all around. Another walk of about six kilometers takes us to our campsite at Bualtar.

    Day 16 Bualtar - Ziarat Baba Ghundi - Sost

    We start walking and finish up our walk and our great trekking expedition at Ziarat Baba Ghundi. The place is a famous shrine and people visit from distant areas to this holy place. Onwards, we drive by jeeps to Sost on KKH to sleep under a roof after a long period.

    Day 17 Sost - Khunjerab Pass - Karimabad ( Hunza Valley )

    Today we will make an excursion to the Sino-Pak border at Khunjerab, crossing the villages of Passu and Sost en route. Khunjerab is the highest point on KKH at 4734 meters and considered as the highest trade route in the world. In the evening we will drive back to Karimabad, the capital of Hunza Valley.

    Day 18 Karimabad - Sightseeing

    Ultar, Hunza Dome, Bublimating, Spantik and Diran are famous peaks surrounds us at Karimabad, while Rakaposhi at 7788m dominates the whole panorama. At Karimabad, we visit Baltit Fort Museum and Altit Fort. Rest of the day is free for walking around villages and famous terraced fields of Hunza.

    Day 19 Karimabad - Gilgit

    We will drive back to Gilgit, where we enjoy a free time to explore bazaar and town. Gilgit River flowing through the town offers superb views and walk along its banks is rewarding.

    Day 20 Gilgit - Besham

    Return journey on KKH to Chilas, the place at the foot of Nanga Parbat, where hundreds of rocks are found with inscriptions, writings and drawings of old times. We will make a photo stop at Chilas and Shatial Rocks and continue driving to Besham for overnight stay.

    Day 21 Besham - Islamabad

    Making an early departure for Islamabad, we arrive at Taxila, the famous capital of Buddhists. At Taxila, we will visit Jaulian Monastery and Archaeological Museum and resume drive to Islamabad for overnight. At Islamabad, evening is free for packing and individual's activities ( optional visit in Islamabad at ministry of tourism for de-briefing ).

    Day 22 Departure

    Our staff will provide transfer and assistance at departure and say bon voyage for your onwards journey.
